My motto is “The closer you look the more you see”.  When looking at my collages from a distance you’ll see vibrant colors and an interesting subject.  But as you get closer… you’ll notice recycled papers galore!  I use just about any kind of paper I can get my hands on.  You’ll see maps, music sheets, old books, chewing gum wrappers, papers from boxed wines, papers that I’ve painted myself, and few hand-made purchased papers.  I’ll hand tear the papers and glue each piece individually to make it resemble a brush stroke.  Each painting takes many hours to make.  I start with a sketch, do an underpainting, and then I start the collage process.
I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Managua, Nicaragua.  I am of Chinese-Nicaraguan descent.  I lived in Nicaragua until age of 15.  Since I left Nicaragua I’ve lived in Minnesota, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, and the last thirty years in Atlanta.  I have a BS in Computer Science from Florida International University and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University.  Art was my favorite subject as a child, but never thought of making a career out of it.  I started collaging about 6 years ago and just loved it!  it’s been my hobby since.  I work full time for a major airline, so I’ve been fortunate to travel to many continents.  With every trip, I gain appreciation for other cultures and bring papers back to use in my collages!
I love to create and dabble with all kinds of arts and crafts.  When I see other mediums I’m always saying to myself “Ohhhh I gotta try that one day….”  So right now it’s collages.  Who knows what the future will bring…
